Yamouth
Yamouth
Knotted by a nomadic family of the ancient Yomut tribe who wander the border regions of North East Persia and Russian Turkestan, this is a splendid and wholly authentic example of the living Turkoman tradition of carpet-knotting art. With its elegantly spaced arrangement of classic gulli-gul ornaments against a glowing garnet red background, and the exacting detail of its age-old Yomut border repertoire, a more definitive specimen of an authentic 'main' Turkoman tribal carpet could not be wished for. Such items are becoming increasingly scarce on the international market, and this example is of particular note in terms of both craftsmanship and artistic understanding, greatly increasing its value to the connoisseur of major tribal carpets.
